Mesa Community College host event to increase student engagement in IT

The Maricopa IT Institute-East Valley and the Maricopa Workforce and Economic Development Office hosted a seminar to increase information technology industry student engagement, with the participation of several technology companies at the Rio Salado Conference Center on Oct. 26, 2022.

City of Mesa adds bus route to help Mesa Community College students

The city of Mesa established a free bus route for Mesa Community members called “Fiesta Buzz” for the first time in the area including the MCC Southern and Dobson campus, it started on October 24th.

The service will be operated by Valley Metro, connecting the Fiesta District, Asian District, and Mesa Riverview. The total travel time is approximately 25 minutes from start to finish.

Mesa Community College Fitness Centers offer memberships for all students and community members

Low-cost memberships, including all personal training, are now offered by the Mesa Community College fitness center at both campuses with a free week to try the fitness center services.

“We do have a free week guest pass if an individual wants to stop by the fitness center, we’ll give them a tour and if they’re not quite ready to decide if they want to do a membership yet, they can try the facility out for a week. Free,” said Wellness Fitness Supervisor Kelley Lafer.

Mesa Community College offers students 24/7 online tutoring

Mesa Community College is offering 24/7 online tutoring, as well as tutoring during office hours in person in the Learning Enhancement Center with no need for appointments.

The LEC offers more than eight subjects at the two campuses, Southern Dobson and Red Mountain. Also, the LEC offers free walk-in tutoring for writing, reading, and English as a Second Language at the Academic Skills Center.

Virtual tutoring is available for current MCC students only.

MCCCD hope to offer bachelor’s degrees beginning in the fall of 2023

Maricopa County Community Colleges plan to add bachelor’s degree programs to the eight community colleges in the district to address the demands of the workforce throughout Arizona.

Though not all programs have been approved, MCCCD hopes to expand on the pool of bachelor’s degrees offered within the district.

“Through this bachelor’s degree pathway in early childhood dual language. The focus will be in our community,” said chair of education studies at MCC, Annapurna Ganesh.
